New Fencing in 2013
This summer has seen the winter paddocks have a make over. We've upgraded the fencing along the walkway to post & rail from the old electric fence. We've added new gates for each winter paddock to make access easier. The 12' gates have been angle to allow tractors easy access for topping and weed control. All the winter paddocks have been sprayed during the summer to control weeds and over-seeded with grass seed to improve cover. The fencing has been creosoted to to increase life span and looks great. New water system in 2013
During the summer we installed an underground system of water pipes. 13 taps have been placed strategically to allow easy access to water to all the winter and summer paddocks, ( no more carrying containers yippee!) We haven't gone for auto drinkers due to the links with disease spread. Instead the taps allow water troughs to be filled easily with hose pipes that easily clip onto the taps. |
Great News for Gatherley Equestrian comes with the motorway upgrade!
The Plans for the new motorway upgrade show a whole new bridle path system starting right on our doorstep!
The plans show a new system running parallel to the upgraded motorway from the end of the farm lane, running up to Scotch corner and branching across to join the local network of bridleways across to moulton and beyond.
This will mean miles and miles of beautiful hacking with no gates or obstructions to worry about. we may even be able to slip a few cross country jumps along to way for a little entertainment. The news is absolutely brilliant as it will make the already extensive off road hacking even better

Future Wish List
- Improvement to the drive Although we had planned to start concreting sections of the drive each year, starting in 2013. The workload this year has prevented us starting it. This will now be a priority for 2014. The plan being to complete the drive over 3-4 years.Temporary remedial work will be undertaken prior to winter however with the long term project starting next summer.
- More post and rail fencing. plans to post and rail the walkways in the summer paddock are planed for 2014/15. due to the high cost of fencing we plan to do a little more each year.
- Lunging Ring fencing. The lunging ring fencing will need replacing in the next 2 years. 2014/15. we hope to improve the system to allow better sand retention.
- Horse walker. We are looking at the feasibility of a horse walker to aid with horse exercising. Although this may need to be a pay as you use facility we are examining cost options for the layout. ideally we would like this to be installed within the next 5 years.
- Indoor arena, We have been examining possibilities for building an indoor arena. This would be a high cost asset which would probably need to be undertaken with an expansion to the yard to make it financially viable. Most likely timescale for this project would be 2018-2020.
